Yelena the Paladin by YoshiyukiKatana Yelena the Paladin by YoshiyukiKatana
My paladin character Yelena. I guess the definition of paladins is that they are knights who have been considered heroes or champions working for a divine power in some sort of way. RPG fans, correct me if I'm wrong.

I realized that the color scheme and certain elements may look like previous pieces, but this was practice for me again on getting rocks, metal and skyscapes. The color scheme and composition was begging me to repeat this time. I'll change the whole look in my future stuff, promise.

MEDIUM: Pencil, Corel Painter IX, and Adobe Photoshop CS2

She is not manly looking. She's the embodiment of woman power. Great colors and clothes.

No, a paladin is much more than a simple knight following a church or religion.
Paladin is the light, the candle, that travels inside the darkness to fight for hope, justice and all that kindness represents.
Paladins are not mere champions of arms and magic, they are the defenders of the weak and they are those who shall not falter, who shall not drop their heads when facing any difficulty, who shall show no weakness to evil even if they are at their worst.
Thank you.

As for the pic, it is a very beautiful one, and one that is not painted just for the likes of some "holy-naked-lovers", like someone previously mentioned. If you'd allow me though i'd say that i would prefer something more like a greatsword or a bastard sword for this strong looking woman.

No, I think you have the definition of Paladin correct. I got into a chat with my parents about Dungeons and Dragons, and that's pretty much their definition of a sort-a Warrior/knight+a Cleric=A Paladin-They can kick your ass, heal you up, then kick it again.

Good lord! A fantasy girl wearing something more than a bikni? Preposterous! :p

Amazing! I like the color scheme a lot, and her pose looks very dramatic, Hero-Statue like.

I love using this color scheme (though I should be experimenting beyond it), blue and orange are definately my fav complimentaries. Thanks!

I really like the sword. Its nice to see a functional weapon that isnt overly ornate, especially with a paladin.

First of all you chose a wonderful colour scheme that makes the character really stand out. Second she doesn't look like a man. However, I suggest that to make her look more faminine you add up some details to her robe and dress and give her gloves with some details on it as well. Just one little thing about the dress. The major visible part seems to be coming from around her back which is a bit out of shape. but all in all - you draw women just as great:)

Beautifully done. I don't think she looks too masculine at all. I love the color and the composition. I do wish there was a little more detail in the fabric.
YoshiyukiKatana Featured By Owner Sep 8, 2007
Thank you. Unfortunately I had not added any textures to this piece so the cloth may seem a little plain. I'm very happy to hear that you do not think that she is portrayed too masculine for a warrior woman. I guess it really depends on the audience group. The forum that had commented on the masculinity was more into big-eyed anime style girls than what I'm doing. Thanks again for your comment.

its pretty sweet! It would be neat if you had the sky opening up and a ray of light hitting her if u wanted something more iconic. its still awesome tho
YoshiyukiKatana Featured By Owner Sep 5, 2007
Thanks man. I did think about that but it made everything very pale where the light hits when I actually got arounf to doing it. Maybe I wasn't using the right layer style. You got any suggestions?

This seriously makes me question the random luck of how one suddenly becomes deviant famous, because I'm sure people would be eating your stuff up.
mynameistran Featured By Owner Aug 3, 2007
oooo, i love the stance she's in and that halo as well. great job on the sword.
Silveraxe Featured By Owner Aug 3, 2007  Professional Digital Artist
wow this is amazing ploy!!! :D
man, you're rockin'!! i just don't like the hand that's holding the sword but other than that its friggin' awesome
love the composition and the halo behind. lovely coloring and nice brush strokes.
YoshiyukiKatana Featured By Owner Aug 4, 2007
Yeah, I hated the hand with the sword, I was in a rush too so I didn't bother fixing it (plus, I was loosing my patience). I'm actually glad the halo worked for you. I thought it was cliche but I needed to activate the space with somthing. Thanks so much for the comment!
Silveraxe Featured By Owner Aug 4, 2007  Professional Digital Artist
yeah i think the halo works perfect, and also stresses the paladin's divineness ;)

you should do more char designs like this :D
YoshiyukiKatana Featured By Owner Aug 6, 2007
I want to. I'm just trying to do a bit of everything. I'm planning to redo some of my original characters pretty soon and try practiving using texture overlays. I'm dying to do some character designs anyhow.

cool :D can't wait to see them!
meggyc Featured By Owner Aug 3, 2007
Everything you draw is always amazing!

I really love the color scheme. That particular shade of blue and that particular shade of orange is visually pleasing.

I love how you rendered the folds in her clothing.
SolarGomz Featured By Owner Aug 2, 2007
Most Certanly gives that feel that she's a hero or legend.
