awesome pic.
I like the limited colors... black/white/red combinations are always so elegant. :)
looks very light with those long and flowing strokes. what kind of brushes did you use to achieve the real paint look?

... the guy is real eye candy, too, btw. :D

The brushes were Corel's brushes. I think I used Tapered Oils from Artists Oils, Grainy Blender, Grainy Water, and Oily Blender from the Blender brushes. I think that should be right, it's been a while and I usually don't work the way I did in this piece on a regular basis. Thanks!

you work with a cintiq?

I like those textures! it looks almost like real paint! the hair looks really good too!

Did you make this in black/white or did you first make it in colors and put it on greyscale later?

I made it black and white but the colored I added later as a normal layer (no color layer or multiply). My department has a cintiq lab. It's so awesome...Thanks for the comment!

I love the sort of grainy textures going on with the brush. It gives the picture a lot of character.

I did this on a Mac actually. And the Painter X program was used on my college's computer. I have Painter IX on my personal computer and it takes around 1.5 GB of RAM to run pretty smoothly. Sorry, I really wish I could be more help.

Well, the sword is strange.. Where the hand is holding, the sword goes to one angle, but that's a little diferent the blade's angle.. It's like if it were broke or something..

But the rest is just fine, Specially the movement efect, It's a very dynamic picture (:+fav: for it)

Eh heh heh, I have to admit, the sword was an afterthought. The whole thing was pretty much an after thought since I didn't even plan on doing a samurai at all. I chose to angle to sword that way since if I switched it around, he would be stabbing himself, I think. I understand where you're coming from, if this was a tighter piece, I would have had those issues solved before I committed to finishing it. But this was all for fun. I'm still glad you like it though. Thanks for critique, I really appreciate it.

Oh, you are wellcome =)

Understand, I usually make critiques. It's not that I didn't like your art (I'm actually a wather since I became a deviant), I just criticize for people to improve always more. But I don't know if I have the wright to criticize someone that better than me ^^

Ah, I don't mind. I get bombarded very week in class with critiques so it's perfectly normal. I respect critiques from everyone since I have met people who aren't spectacular artists but have offered me very helpful critiques and solutions (they have an eye for aesthetics). It's very nice of you to offer me a critique since it's hard to get them here on DA. Thank you again!
