Cadet Puffpants by YoshiyukiKatana Cadet Puffpants by YoshiyukiKatana
**FULL VIEW PLEASE!

The objective for this assignment was to sculpt yourself as a super hero, super villain, sidekick, lackey, or henchman in a sci-fi or fantasy theme. The maquette can be realistic or stylized and has to be in a full action pose.

This here is Cadet Puffpants, a Level 1 trainee pilot (hero character type). She's not quite there yet in the flying but in due time...we'll see!

The steel wire armature is what's keeping her standing. It is drilled into the wood base and reinforced with Propoxy putty.

This maquette is unbaked. I may upload new pictures whenever she gets returned and I have time to cook and sand her properly. A big thanks to my TA who was very generous to provide me with the pictures she's archived.

**Please ignore the ' Picture' column (where it talks about what type of camera was used and it's specs), because I have no idea which camera these images were taken with.

Hope you guys enjoy!

MEDIUM: Steel, aluminum, and copper wire, aluminum foil, and Super Sculpey Firm

hahaha! I love it, it's cute as hell and very skillfully sculpted. I'm also particularly impressed that you havent even sanded teh surface yet and it still looks quite finished.

I'm about to take a character maquette class too, n hopefully I can come up with a character just as good ^^;

Thanks. That's funny, a lot of people didn't seem to catch this one either. The requirements for this project really pushed for us to make dynamic poses. At least one foot off the ground and movement of the torso was required.

O__o That's amazing she's standing in that pose. She has to be connected to the wood block with the wire, right? Her expression cracks me up though--love it.

Yep, she's reinforced with steel wire onto the wood base with Propoxy. We had to exaggerate our character expressions so I think I hit the mark there. I'm glad you like it!

How did you manage to keep the character from falling. It looks like it's going to fall but it doesn't because of the weight balance. How did you get it to balance? It looks amazing! How big is it? :D

The armature is made from steel wire which is screwed into the wood base and glued to it with Propoxy. It apparently was strong enough to hold her front heavy composition. I'm still surprised she's standing. Thanks!

Nice. My teacher told me not to add a bottom base. But it I think it would have helped me. I like the idea of screwing it to the base. Thanks for the tips! ~Ty

I had a different maquette assigment for another class besides this one where we were also not allowed to use a base since the challenge was to balance the figure on its own. I hated how that project turned out. I'd go for a base any day.

Thanks for the advice. I didn't like how the first one I did came out either. I'm going to be making one hopefully over my break. I'm totally going to add a base.

Hardware or plumbing supply stores generally carry Propoxy. Those places are your best bets. Only one art store in my town carries it since they know that my class buys this stuff. I doubt many art stores have them. I'm glad my stuff inspires you to pursue your own artistic work. Happy sculpting and good luck!

Do you have a sketch for it? And I think it looks like clay when I see the circle on her backpack. I really want to do something like this in the future, when I think I have practice enough on drawing and remembering different angles and poses. Not to mention the perspective.
It's full of life!
